Phenotypic characterization

The phenotypic characters always are involved in the general identification of bacterial strains. With the main focus on the identification of bacteria the phenotypic tests chosen should be of discriminative power to differentiate close related taxa.

Whenever practicable we involve the commercial systems like BIOLOG GENIII or the API gallery. Besides these systems we always include individual phenotypic tests.

With the aim of description of a new taxon the phenotypic tests should be descriptive as well as discriminative providing a broad characterization of the unknown microorganisms. The individual characterization of strains also is offered by DSMZ.
