Origin:
established from the peripheral blood of a 64-year-old man with acute monocytic leukemia (AML FAB M5) at relapse in 1985 following myeloid metaplasia; simultaneous sister cell line of MONO-MAC-6 (DSM ACC 124); cells are described in the literature to be less differentiated than MONO-MAC-6 and to support productive infection with HIV-1; see also website "www.monocyte.eu".

90% RPMI 1640 + 10% h.i. FBS + 2 mM L-glutamine + 1x non-essential amino acids + 1 mM sodium pyruvate
Subculture:
seed out at ca. 1 x 106 cells/ml; maintain at 0.3-1.0 x 106 cells/ml; split ratio 1:2 to 1:3 every 2-3 days
Incubation:
at 37 °C with 5% CO2

about 30-50 hours
