Origin:
established in 1966 from the peripheral blood of an 11-year-old boy with lymphosarcoma that had progressed to acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL); cell line was established and initially passaged in newborn hamsters; cells were described as carrying the t(1;7)(p34;q34) involving the LCK and TRB (LCK-TCRB) genes and a submicroscopic del(1)(p32) leading to the STIL-TAL1 (SIL-SCL) fusion gene; one of the oldest immature T cell lines, also known in the literature as CCRF-HSB-2
