mostly round cells growing singly and in clusters in suspension and partially adherent; quality and amount of serum may influence the adherence of the cells
Medium:
80-90% Ham's F10 + 10-20% h.i. FBS + 2 mM L-glutamine (originally grown with 15% horse serum + 2.5% h.i. FBS in Ham´s F10)
Subculture:
cells grow slowly and do not reach high cell densities; seed out at ca. 0.5 x 106 cells/ml; maintain at 0.3-0.8 x 106 cells/ml; adherent cells might be detached by "washing" or with TNE (40 mM TrisCl pH 7.5, 1 mM EDTA pH 7.5, 150 mM NaCl);
Incubation:
at 37 °C with 5% CO2

ca. 60-80 hours

Species-level identification was carried out by mitochondrial Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit 1 (COI) DNA barcoding according standard ANSI/ATCC ASN-0003-2015 and revealed Rattus norvegicus species.
