seed out at ca. 0.5 x 10⁶ cells/ml in 12- or 24-well-plates; maintain at ca. 0.3-0.6 x 10⁶ cells/ml; split saturated culture 1:3 to 1:4 every 3-5 days; cells grow better in plates than flasks, though viabilities rarely exceed 90%
