Growth occurs between 25–60 °C with the optimum at 50 °C. The pH range for growth is pH 6.0–9.5 with an optimum around pH 7.5. Growth occurs below 3 % (w/v), with an optimum at below 0.5 % (w/v) NaCl. Oxygen (in air) is used as the elec- tron acceptor in the presence of yeast extract. Sulfate, sulfite, thiosulfate, elemental sulfur, nitrate, nitrite iron (III) oxide and iron (III) chloride are not used as sole electron acceptors. Assimilates maltose, but not l- arabinose d- ribose, d- xylose, d- fructose, d- glucose, d- mannose, cellobiose, lactose and sucrose. Yeast extract is required for growth.
