Utilizes 2-nitrotoluene as the sole soucre of carbon, energy and nitrogen (13826, 13827, 13828, 13829). (Medium 457 without ammonium sulfate, with 2-nitrotoluene supplied via the incubation atmosphere or Medium 535, 28°C). Rehydrate and grow lyophilized cells from the ampoule in 5 ml liquid trypticase broth (medium 535). Subsequent subculturing may be carried out in liquid medium or on agar plates, in medium 535 or medium 457 with nitrotoluene.
