The strain was isolated from DSM 8774, which is assumed to be a coculture between Archaeoglobus fulgidus and Thermococcus bergensis (DSM 27149). DSM 8774 has been described in: Beeder et al. (1994), Achaeoglobus fulgidus from hot North Sea oil field waters. Appl. Env. Microbiol. 60: 1224-1231. (Medium 760, incubation time: 1-2 days, 83°C, anaerobic)
