<- NCIMB <- ATCC. [K12 chi 1776]. . Minicell producing strain. Used in recombinant DNA research as safety host (needs diaminopimelic acid, L-threonine, L-methionine, biotin and thymine or thymidine). Gives high transformation frequencies.. Sensitive to UV light, sensitive to higher temperatures (37°C), sensitive to traces of detergents like SDS or sarkosyl; Cms, Tcs, Kms, Rifs, resistant to nalidixic acid, resistant to cycloserine, resistant to trimethoprim. It is important to use only the recommended growth conditions (Medium 394, 30°C).
