Summary and
additional information:
additional information:
<- B.A. Maguire, strain AM. Erythromycin-dependent mutant, derived from strain A19. A range of antibiotics such as chloramphenicol, tetracycline, spectinomycin, kasugamycin and rifampicin can substitute for erythromycin. The potential mechanism is that binding of the antibiotic which acts on ribosomes restores the function of mutated altered ribosomes. Revertants of strain AM to independence lack a ribosomal protein. (6303, 6304). (Medium 661 plus 50 µg/ml erythromycin, 37°C).
