Microbiome & Collective Deposits

DSMZ welcomes bulk deposits (> 10-20 strains) of microbiota/microbiome collections cultured from specified hosts, environmental habitats or technological settings. In addition, special collections comprising taxonomically or functionally similar groups are accepted as well.
Bulk deposits are processed in a standardized 3-step procedure:

  1. Depositors fill out the Bulk Deposit Accession Form covering all relevant strain information and sign the Bulk Deposit Agreement.
  2. Depositors are contacted by the coordinating curator to send up to 10 selected strains chosen by DSMZ for initial quality check.
  3. If all strains of step 2 pass the quality controls and legal obligations required by DSMZ, the coordinating curator will request packages of 30-40 strains that will be processed in batch. After each processed batch, a new batch will be requested until the whole bulk deposit is processed.

Please be aware that bulk deposits are time-intensive taking considerably longer than deposits of single strains. We encourage depositors to start bulk deposits as early as possible in their projects to have them ready before submission of accompanying manuscripts. Requests for urgent bulk deposits during the revision phase of a manuscript will not be considered.
