<- ATCC <- NCIB <- Glaxo Labs., Ltd. "Safety host" in recombinant DNA research; minicell producing strain (3779). Assay strain for vitamin B12 and requires vitamin B12 or methionine. Strain should be kept on ammonium salts glucose medium containing vitamin B12. Strain is a stable mutant and was found to give a graded dose response to B12 (0.005 to 5.0 µg/mL) when grown in simple synthetic media. Factor B which is B12 without the nucleotide and any of the authenticated analogues (containing either purines or benziminazoles in the nucleotide) but not desoxyribosides can replace the B12-methionine requirement of this mutant being the most suitable test organism for bio-autographs (282, 1589, 14271, 14272). Regulation of folate-dependent enzymes (14273). Repression-derepression of serine hydroxymethyltransferase (14274). (Medium 1270, 37°C).
