DSMZ Director Jörg Overmann contributes to the Open DSI discussion at the UN Biodiversity Conference

The UN Biodiversity Conference (COP15) took place from 7-19 December 2022 in Montreal, Canada. Governments from around the world came together to discuss and agree on a set of goals to stop global warming and loss of biodiversity.
Closely interconnected with the protection of biodiversity is the continued access to digital sequence information (DSI). The potential restriction to this digital information, requested especially from countries of the global south, was also on the COP15’s agenda.
Jörg Overmann, Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute DSMZ, joined the discussion in Montreal and emphasized the importance of free access to DSI for the science community. A selection of statements and interviews with Prof. Dr. Jörg Overmann can be accessed here:
