Quality Assurance

The DSMZ Plant Virus Department has made great efforts in the past years to further expand the existing range of high quality antisera, comprehensively characterized virus isolates and excellent services. To provide proof of the high quality and reliability of our products we have recently been awarded accreditation as producer of reference materials. This accreditation by the national Germany accreditation body “Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH” (DAkkS), confirms that the DSMZ Plant Virus Department is competent under the terms of DIN EN ISO 17034:2017 to produce reference materials in the form of inoculum, nucleic acid-extracts and serological diagnostics of plant viruses.

Plant Virus Isolates
Descriptions of virus specimens are based on information provided by the contributors, the DSMZ staff, and advisors. The taxonomic classification of the respective virus is according to the current report of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).

Antisera / Serological Reagents
All antisera and each batch of serological reagents is subject to strict quality control procedures, ensuring the highest possible quality and stability of our products.

Culture Authenticity
All plant virus materials kept at the DSMZ are subjected to extensive quality control procedures for cultural approval by the DSMZ staff. These include bio-assays on selected indicator plants, electron microscopical examinations, serological tests and all new accessions are at least partially sequenced prior to the release into the public collection. The sequence information is, if not deposited at GenBank with the corrisponding PV-number, available on request.
