The Leibniz-Institute DSMZ-German Collection Microorganisms and Cell Cultures GmbH, Braunschweig offers the position of a
Postdoctoral research associate (m/f/d)
in the Department Bioresources for Bioeconomy and Health Research. The appointment will be initially for 2 years with a salary level according to TV-L E 13. The position is offered as full time (39,8 hours per week) and is not appropriate for part time work.
The main tasks of the postdoctoral researcher will be the establishment of a high-throughput platform for antibiotic activity screenings. The project work will comprise cultivation of actinobacteria, bioassay-guided selection of potent producer strains, genome mining for secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters, and genetic engineering of prioritised strains.
For this task we seek a highly motivated and creative person with expertise in the biology and physiology of natural compound producers. Requirements for the position are a PhD university degree in microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, pharmacy or a comparable discipline. The position requires experience in developing biological assays to determine bioactivities. Candidates should have documented experience in microbiological and molecular biological techniques and an excellent knowledge of the natural compounds research field. Practical experience in working with actinobacteria will be given a preference. Experience in the characterization of natural compounds by chemical analytics would be an asset.
