Faculty of Life Sciences of the Technische Universität Braunschweig and the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures

Professorship (W2) in the field of "Cell Biology" (m/f/d)

The Faculty of Life Sciences of the Technische Universität Braunschweig and the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures offer a Joint

Professorship (W2) in the field of "Cell Biology" (m/f/d)

available for immediate placement.

The newly created professorship in cooperation with the TU Braunschweig will be located at the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures and will be a dual appointment as Head of the Department "Human and Animal Cell Lines" at DSMZ and professor at TU Braunschweig. The position is intended to complement DSMZ's existing research focus on Genome Research and on Mechanisms of Biological Differentiation and contribute to the development of systems biology in cooperation with partner institutions in the region such as TU Braunschweig and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research. Research interests should focus on the molecular basis and evolution of the diversity and heterogeneity of eukaryotic cells. This involves state-of-the-art OMICS approaches such as genome sequencing, transcriptomics, or methylomics as well as metabolomic and bioinformatic methods. These techniques shall be applied for the characterization of innovative in-vitro tissue culture models, like organoids and 3D-models. A proven track record with respect to the establishing and cultivation of novel cell lines is desired. The candidate will be expected to establish an internationally competitive, externally-funded research group and will likewise contribute to strategic developments at both the Leibniz Institute DSMZ and TU Braunschweig. The Leibniz Institute DSMZ (www.dsmz.de ) is one of the largest and most diverse bioresource centers worldwide. Responsibilities as the Head of the department "Human and Animal Cell Lines" include leadership of 6 curators with a total of 16 scientific and technical employees. The Leibniz Institute DSMZ's research agenda is focused on basic science and collection-related topics and takes advantage of a state-of-the-art technical equipment (e.g., next generation single molecule sequencing, high resolution TIRF/STORM microscopy, flowcytometry with single cell sorting, MALDI-TOF, 768 core SMP server structure) and an inventory of 65,000 different biological ressources.

A PhD and relevant research activity with outstanding academic achievement (habilitation or equivalent) are required in accordance with §25 NHG. The candidate is additionally expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate instruction at TU Braunschweig. Proof of degrees held (e.g., diplomas and/or transcripts) must be provided with the application.

Candidates older than age 50 that do not already hold German civil servant status (Beamtenverhältnis) will be unable to enter the German civil servant system. The candidate will hold an appointment at the TU Braunschweig and be physically located and employed at the DSMZ. The Leibniz Institute DSMZ and TU Braunschweig aim to increase the proportion of women in management positions and strongly encourage qualified female scientists to apply. Equally qualified women will be given hiring preference. The Leibniz Institute DSMZ offers employees many work-life benefits including a dedicated slot in a neighboringdaycare/pre-school. The position is not suitable for part-timework. Equally qualified, severely handicapped applicants will be given hiring preference.

Applications should be sent, at the latest, 4 weeks after publication of this announcement, and include a CV , list of publications, teaching experience, list of third-party grants, (maximum) 5 representative publications, and a research concept (max. 2 pages). Applications should be addressed to the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences Prof. Dr. Ingo Rustenbeck, Technische Universität Braunschweig, Universitätsplatz, 38106 Braunschweig.
