Postdoctoral Position in Microbiology

Postdoctoral research associate

in the Bacteriophage Group within the Department Bioeconomy and Health Research in the framework of an externally funded project. Initial appointment will be for 12 months with a salary level at the German public pay scale of TV-L E 13 with an option to extend for another 12 months limited to a total of 2 years. The position is full time and not suitable for part time work. Starting date will be as soon as possible and ideally not later than September 1, 2018.

The post-doctoral project will focus on the isolation and characterization of phages for targeted pharmaceutical development.Essential for the position are a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in the field of microbiology, working knowledge of bacteriophages, phage and bacterial cultivation, and general molecular biology and mi­cro­bio­lo­gy techniques. Candidates should have demonstrated experience inleading cooperative, distributed projects, strongcommunication skills that will enable effective interaction with offsite partners within Germany, high motivation and strengths in goal-oriented project management. Additional desirable skills include experience with commercial application projects and partners. Strong English skills are essential and knowledge of German would be a plus.

The DSMZ is an internationally-renowned service bioresource centre and research infrastructure with one of the most diverse microbial collections worldwide. The DSMZ bacteriophage collection and its societal and clinical relevance has attracted a great deal of recent press and associated research opportunities. The DSMZ offers well-equipped laboratories and computational facilities.
