The European Virus Archive (EVA) stands as a unique global resource, singularly focused on the acquisition, analysis, creation, and dissemination of reference viruses. Since 2008, this collaborative network has reliably provided authenticated virus strains and essential diagnostic materials to advance research, accelerate vaccine development, and strengthen public health initiatives.

Today, EVA AISBL connects 20 leading scientific institutions from across Europe, Australia, and beyond—encompassing universities, research centers, and national health authorities—to foster innovation and share critical resources.

Guided by the “One Virology” vision, EVA recognizes virology as a unifying field that bridges human, animal, and environmental health—a perspective central to the One Health framework. The platform offers a robust, collectively managed infrastructure, empowering global efforts in research, diagnostics, and pandemic preparedness.

In Germany, EVA’s network includes the DSMZ, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the Friedrich-Loeffler Institute (FLI), the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. These partners contribute a comprehensive range of expertise, from tropical medicine and animal disease control to plant virology, reflecting EVA’s commitment to addressing diverse scientific challenges. The DSMZ as a core partner of EVA-AISBL contributes by providing access to its unique collection of plant viruses and derived products, as well as through its expertise as a registered collection.

At the first general assembly of EVA AISBL Dr. Amber Hartman Scholz, head of the DSMZ Department Science Policy and Internationalisation was elected as a member of the Board of Directors.
