Global Biodiversity Information Facility

The mission of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is to facilitate free and open access to biodiversity data worldwide via the Internet.
The DSMZ is responsible for the German Node Bacteria & Archaea.

GBIF-Germany Node Bacteria and Archaea

In the context of setting up a German GBIF network the node for Bacteria and Archaea aims at:

  • creation of a common access point for the microbiological collection databases in Germany and establishing links to GBIF International construction of universal virtual collections
  • support of the digitalization of data and harmonization of data capture in German collections of prokaryotes and viruses
  • progressing linking of data/databases via the internet
  • close cooperation with the other national nodes, with GBIF International and other regional and international organizations.
