RED-5
ACC 451
Cell line:
RED-5
DSMZ no.:
ACC 451
Species:
murine (mouse) (Mus musculus)
Cell type:
erythroid leukemia
Origin:
established from a Rauscher murine leukemia virus-induced erythroid leukemia of a female DBA/2 mouse; cells were described as being responsive to erythropoietin (EPO) and to form benzidine-positive colonies upon stimulation with EPO or DMSO
Reference(s):
Biosafety level:
1
Permissions and restrictions:
DSMZ Cell Culture Data:
Medium:
80% RPMI 1640 + 20% h.i. FBS
Subculture:
split saturated culture at 1:2 to 1:3 every two days; seed out at ca. 0.5-1.0 x 106 cells/ml; viability immediately after thawing may be rather low (<30%), but cells recover subsequently over the next week and viability will raise over the next few passages (spent medium should be exchanged with discarding cells); cells grow initially better in 24-well-plates; maximal density at ca. 2.0 x 106 cells/ml
Incubation:
at 37 °C with 5% CO2
Doubling time:
ca. 30 hours
Harvest:
cell harvest of ca. 2.0 x 106 cells/ml
Storage:
frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO
DSMZ Scientific Data:
Mycoplasma:
negative in DAPI, microbiological culture, RNA hybridization, PCR assays
Species validation:
Species-level identification was carried out by mitochondrial Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit 1 (COI) DNA barcoding according standard ANSI/ATCC ASN-0003-2015 and revealed Mus musculus species.
Cytogenetics:
murine-like karyotype
Viruses:
PCR: SMRV -
