Scientific Interim Director Prof. Dr. Yvonne Mast
Yvonne Mast studied biology in Tübingen. After completing her habilitation there, she was appointed as head of the newly established Department of Bioresources for Bioeconomy and Health Research at the Leibniz Institute DSMZ in 2019.
Her research focuses on investigating the biosynthetic potential of various natural compound producers, analysing the anti-infective properties of secondary metabolites against clinical pathogens, and testing the antibacterial potential of bacteriophages. Various biotechnological strategies are employed in this work, including genome mining, synthetic biology, and genetic engineering, to unlock the full anti-infective potential of biological material.
