Prof. Dr. Jörg Overmann has been the Scientific Director of the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Culture Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures since 1 February 2010.
Overmann studied Biology with emphasis on microbiology in Bochum and Freiburg. He earned his doctorate in 1991 at the University of Constance upon completing his thesis concerning the site-specific adaptation of sulphur bacteria and received the Doctoral Graduation Award of the Association for General and Applied Microbiology.
After finishing a research post in Vancouver, Canada, Overmann qualified as Professor at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg in 1999. Shortly thereafter, Overmann received an appointment as Professor for Microbiology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. There he has led the Department of Biology I with the sections Microbiology, Genetics, Botany, Biodiversity and Didactics of Biology since 2003.
Bettina Fischer is the Administrative Director of the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Culture Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures.
After many years in managerial functions in the ecclesiastical sector, and most recently as Director of the Auditing Office of the Ev.-luth. Landeskirche Braunschweig, Bettina Fischer has worked as head of administration for the Leibniz Institute DSMZ since 1 January 2003. She was appointed as Administrative Director on 1 August 2018.
Bettina Fischer is responsible for the departments Personnel, Finance, Purchasing and Building Maintenance, as well as Customer Service and Sales for the facility. In the context of certification of the DSMZ, and pursuant the audit ‘berufundfamilie’ (Career and Family), she is responsible for the project management.
