Authentication of Human Cell Lines

The DSMZ offers a cell line authentication service to external customers based on short tandem repeat analysis (STR typing).

Cell line authentication is mandatory to avoid the use of false or misidentified cell lines in research and applications, thereby ensuring reproducibility and consistency of results. For the same reasons, cell line authentication is increasingly requested by scientific journals or funding agencies.

At the DSMZ we use a 17 STR loci panel for human cell line authentication, in accordance with ANSI/ATCC ASN-0002-2011. In addition, we test all samples for the presence for mitochondrial DNA sequences from rodent cells such as mouse, rat, chinese and syrian hamster.
