established in 1991 from the pleural effusion of a 18-year-old woman with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) after being diagnosed earlier with Hodgkin lymphoma and treated with chemotherapy; recent molecular biological characterization assigned this cell line to the entity "primary mediastinal B-cell lymphoma" (PMBL); cells were described in the literature to bear microsatellite instability.
