Risk assessment:
The cells are infected with human papilloma viruses (HPV) as detected by PCR. However, no HPV sequences were amplified applying PCR analysis on DNase I digested supernatant to detect DNase 1 protected active viruses. A transmission of HPV on handling the cells is unlikely. The cell line was thus categorized biosafety level 1.
