IPEC-J2
ACC 701
Cell line:
IPEC-J2
DSMZ no.:
ACC 701
Species:
porcine (pig) (Sus scrofa)
Cell type:
intestine (jejunum)
Origin:
established from normal intestinal epithelium cells isolated from the jejunum of a neonatal, unsuckled pig
Biosafety level:
1
Risk assessment:
The cell line carries Porcine type-C oncovirus (PCOV) sequences and their transcripts, which were detected by PCR and RT-PCR, respectively. We did not determine the infection mode of these viruses and cannot exclude the secretion of the viruses. In Germany, these viruses are classified BSL 1 regarding men and BSL 2 relating to animals (TRBA 462). However, the German Central Committee on Biological Safety (ZKBS) classified these viruses and infected cell lines BSL 2 when they are used for genetically modifying applications (Ref. 6790-10-65).
